الأخشاب والطحالبخشب جاف ونبيل، يُعرف بنفاذيّته الراتنجية الخفيفة وملمسه الحرّاق الناعم. يدخل في قواعد العطور كهيكل خشبي متين وليس كموضوع رئيسي، فيمنح التركيبة استقراراً ومتانة دون أن يثقل. يتآلف بشكل ممتاز مع الفانيليا والعنبر والمسك والورد والتوابل، ويظهر بكثرة في العطور الرجالية الكلاسيكية والوحديّة الجنس. يُستخرج من أنواع متعددة كأرز فرجينيا وأرز الأطلس وأرز الهيمالايا، ولكلٍّ نكهةٌ مميّزة.
